Bio

Since receiving his master’s degree in jazz studies from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2000, Pete Anderson has led a wide variety of performing jazz ensembles such as The Swiss Swank Account big band (now The Richmond Rumpus) , One by One, and the New Orleans style jazz band Fatback. Additionally, he has been called upon to perform with some exceptional local and national talent including R4ND4ZZO BIGB4ND, The Upper East Side Big Band, several Richmond area musical theater shows, The Dorsey Brothers big band, The Richmond Symphony and The Temptations. Adding to his background in jazz music, Pete Anderson has performed with Richmond area salsa bands such as Orchestra Tropikiimba, Timbason La Original, and most recently the Afro-Puerto Rican ensemble Kadencia Orchestra.

If there is one thing he is known for, Pete Anderson is a Duke Ellington enthusiast. Having studied with Ellington aficionado Doug Richards and tutored briefly by Ellington trombonist and plunger specialist Art Baron, Pete Anderson demonstrates his passion for the Ellington sound.
